honeymoon: monterey.

Monterey and Big Sur: the bluest of waters, winding trails, cozy restaurants, lots of seafood options, state parks galore, and truly breath-taking views all along the famous Highway 1.  California coastline, thank you for rest and beauty and sunshine on our pale Northwest skin--we heart you.

Highlights: the drive down the coast, a triumph over the original horror of our first place to stay, the fireplace at the bed-and-breakfast, walks after breakfast, exploring quirky antique shops (I was dying to bring that giant cabinet back to Seattle with me), an impulsive purchase of Downton Abbey Season 2 on DVD, peanut-butter-and-banana sandwiches, jogs along the beachfront, a trip to the breathtaking Monterey aquarium, seals on the beach, hikes in Carmel and Big Sur, and the acquisition of a few new freckles.
I don’t think I realized all the stress from wedding planning + work until we got away for a little while.  I am incredibly grateful for the time we had to sleep, rest, and play, and I’m even a little wistful for that California sunshine—but happy to be back in this grey-and-green corner of the country.
